why don't people just do things for themselves anymore?
Because, they are busy? So am I!
Because they are lazy? So am I!
Because they don't know how to use Google? Well ok, I know that well!

Imbolc Lore

Imbolc is one of the four principal festivals of the Celtic calendar, celebrated among Gaelic peoples and some other Celtic cultures, either at the beginning of February or at the first local signs of Spring. Most commonly it is celebrated on February 1, which falls halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere.

Imbolc Lore (February 2nd)

Imbolc, (pronounced "IM-bulk" or "EM-bowlk"), also called Oimealg, ("IM-mol'g), by the Druids, is the festival of the lactating sheep. It is derived from the Gaelic word "oimelc" which means "ewes milk". Herd animals have either given birth to the first offspring of the year or their wombs are swollen and the milk of life is flowing into their teats and udders. It is the time of Blessing of the seeds and consecration of agricultural tools. It marks the center point of the dark half of the year. It is the festival of the Maiden, for from this day to March 21st, it is her season to prepare for growth and renewal. Brighid's snake emerges from the womb of the Earth Mother to test the weather, (the origin of Ground Hog Day), and in many places the first Crocus flowers began to spring forth from the frozen earth.

The Maiden is honored, as the Bride, on this Sabbat. Straw Brideo'gas (corn dollies) are created from oat or wheat straw and placed in baskets with white flower bedding. Young girls then carry the Brideo'gas door to door, and gifts are bestowed upon the image from each household. Afterwards at the traditional feast, the older women make special acorn wands for the dollies to hold, and in the morning the ashes in the hearth are examined to see if the magic wands left marks as a good omen. Brighid's Crosses are fashioned from wheat stalks and exchanged as symbols of protection and prosperity in the coming year. Home hearth fires are put out and re-lit, and a besom is place by the front door to symbolize sweeping out the old and welcoming the new. Candles are lit and placed in each room of the house to honor the re-birth of the Sun.

Another traditional symbol of Imbolc is the plough. In some areas, this is the first day of ploughing in preparation of the first planting of crops. A decorated plough is dragged from door to door, with costumed children following asking for food, drinks, or money. Should they be refused, the household is paid back by having its front garden ploughed up. In other areas, the plough is decorated and then Whiskey, the "water of life" is poured over it. Pieces of cheese and bread are left by the plough and in the newly turned furrows as offerings to the nature spirits. It is considered taboo to cut or pick plants during this time.

Various other names for this Greater Sabbat are Imbolgc Brigantia (Caledonni), Imbolic (Celtic), Disting (Teutonic, Feb 14th), Lupercus (Strega), St. Bridget's Day (Christian), Candlemas, Candlelaria (Mexican), the Snowdrop Festival. The Festival of Lights, or the Feast of the Virgin. All Virgin and Maiden Goddesses are honored at this time.

That Time of Year AGAIN

Count down to my (SHUDDER) 45th Birthday It is 3 days, 6 hours, 52 minutes and 53 seconds until Monday, January 25, 2010
I am so not looking forward to this, unless I had 45 presents to open, or had 45 of something, just want to make it fun.
I am going with my best friend and getting a hair cut but is all I know.
I am sure my kids have forgotten and I am not reminding them.

I know it is just another day and age is a number I should be excited to be in the Crone stage of my life, but facing it alone is not something I am looking forward too.  I would like nothing better than to have a man take me to dinner, buy me flowers and shower me in presents and kisses...  sorry just woke up! lol

Ok I think I am done whining for now... but maybe not

Things that make me happy

This post was inspired by my friend Dede over at http://brightestblessingswiccans.blogspot.com/
  • My son's make me happy for the most part, I mean really what teenager makes you happy all the time LOL however they have brought love, joy, fear, excitement and fullfillment to my life!
  • My grandson's smile or frown he is just so adorable
  • My parents love for each other and the fact they let us make our own choices and were there to dry the tears if we failed but rarely said I told you so...
  • My sisters with their great choices of husbands and their wonderful children are amazing women who have lived life as they wanted and are truly amazing women in their own right!
  • My aunts and uncles and all my cousins, it was a blessing growing up with all of them
  • My grandparents who I dearly miss, they loved me for me and never told me how horrible I was even though there were times I really was hell on wheels!
  • My friends, my dear friends Mel and Peg, Fran, Chucky and Eva without you all in my life I don't know where I would be today you accept me warts and all and I love you for that!
  • My cats, even when they demand attention and get in my face and I have an allergy attack, who could not love the soft purr or the little paw lightly tapping me to get my attention!
  • God & Goddess, without them in my life I would have no spirtuality no life path and no me!  They give without expecting anything in return and with them in my life I know I can make it another day even on my DARK days.
  • My stitching and designing the crafts that my parents and friends have taught me.  Somedays I don't know what I would do without a needle and thread.
  • My computer, the people I have been blessed to meet online who have become such dear friends and such an important part of my daily life.
  • My job and all the wonderful people I have met there I already know what life would be like without them in it.
  • The wonderful Wiccan and Pagan people I have met that have shared their knowledge, strenghts and have enlightened me in ways I could never say enough thank you's for.
  • Going out with Fran and our cameras, taking odd and beautiful pictures of everyday life or just going to the mall, it is always fun!
  • My stone collection that started when I was a young child and would have so many collected rocks that the bottom of my dresser drawers would literally fall out due to the weight LOL  now they are much prettier and smaller (lesson learned)
Well this turned out to be more of a list of my blessings than things that make me happy, but wow thank you all!

Feeling Better Today

UPDATE
Picture for day 7, is in my livingroom after groceries and a number of other things I ran out of steam LOL
But it does have a number of my favorite things on it, although you can't tell the one sideways ornament hanging at the bottom, is in fact a TURTLE! lol of course!
To save writing all my dark and whiny posts to this blog I started one yesterday for just that purpose and let me tell you, after writing out all the dark and whiny things that live inside me, I started unpacking my room and it is starting to look like a normal room!!!
I woke up feeling pretty good today, going to go grocery shopping soon and then coming home and if I have to tear apart the closet of crap I will find 1 of the 3 hammers we had before moving!
Then I can hang things in my room and in the livingroom and then, finally then, I will post my day 7 picture and it may just be of my room!!
Bright Blessings to you all!!
